May 28, 2011 Summer Blooms

I love peonies. They remind me of the house I grew up in. We would cut them and make huge "bridal" bouquets for the weddings, sans grooms, in the back yard.

Just a few years ago, I thought it would be a good idea to plant peonies around a small concrete patio in our backyard. I had no idea that you had to plant a tuber (tubar? tubur?) and it would be a year or so before you had flowers.

I planted about 9 or 10 tubers and all but one have grown into lovely peony bushes. The one that is not growing so well is going to get several Miracle Grow treatments to encourage it along.

This year, they are just in time for Memorial Day.
