June 23, 2011 World War II Memorial

Every now and then, K State gets it right. Like when they hired me.

And when they commissioned this WWII memorial.

It's just north of McCain Auditorium and looks like a set of dog tags.

The tags themselves are mirror like and the chain defies gravity. The flag in this picture is a reflection of the flag that flies nearby.

Inside the memorial are bits of soil from military cemeteries such as Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Riley.

One plaque tells about the quiet dignity of the WWII soldier. The other three read "By Land", "By Air", "By Sea".

It's a poignant memorial to the Greatest Generation.

And I'm glad it's at Kansas State University.

Just like me.
