On a hill south of Manhattan are these giant letters. A student organization in the 1940s is responsible for putting them there; they ran out of money before they got the "U" in place. You can see these letters from the Mall. When I was new to the Manhattan area, I would use these letters to help me get out of the parking lot and in the right direction towards Wamego! As I look back on those days now, I can't believe that I got so turned around.
